Public sector workers’ pay rises could be limited to just 2% in 2023/24 even though inflation is 11.1%.

Though today’s statement will not set out levels of that wage settlement, it will give a broad outline of what departments can afford. Nurses’ demands for more than the £1,400 or 4% uplift they have been offered has been rejected, with strike action now threatened.
