THE Royal Mail was once one of the most efficient postal services in the world.
That changed when it was privatised on the cheap. Millions of pounds that should have been spent on improving services were instead siphoned off to shareholders.
While managers enjoyed lavish pay, workers lost their jobs and stamp prices were hiked.
The Royal Mail is now considering scrapping Saturday letter deliveries as it seeks to cut costs. Such a move would put at risk its obligation to provide a universal service.
It is time it started putting customers first.
