Rockers set to show off new Gear...

-

Ballymena indie rockers Gear are, well, gearing up for a return to the live stage next weekend.

The four-piece are working on the follow-up to debut album These Are The Only Golden Memories so along with the old favourites, such as Somewhere Man and Mockingbird Song, fans should be treated to a

sample of the new material. I’ve been party to a few snippets of the new songs as they work on them in the studio and it sounds great – full-on stomp rockers with awesome drumming from Andy Nicholl and intricate fretwork from guitarist Simon Clarke. He’s the de facto musical leader of the band and

takes his cue from The Verve’s Nick Mccabe’s sonic landscapes and John Squire’s big riffs – all with nods to The Edge’s technical wizardry of course. Bass player Nigel Aiken says the album, which will be out sometime in 2023, has “a razor’s edge to some of it”. He added: “We’ve got one new track called

Ghost Crystal, written by our singer Gaz Armstrong, that’ll fizz live.”

Sounds like a reason to check them out at Belfast boozer The Deer’s Head on Saturday, November 26. They’ll be supported on the night by Baroda and Jess Edlin. Doors 9pm, tickets from eventbrite.co.uk...
