But they have had plenty of time to relax indoors at their luxury hotel out of the 30-degree heat.

And Cardiff striker Mark Harris has revealed that golf-mad Bale (above) is out in front when playing nearest the pin in their games room. Harris said: “Gareth’s very good at the golf. Most of us have had a swing and we had a go after training.

“It is great fun and competitive. It’s just been nearest the pin for now but I’m sure some lads will play an actual course soon.” Monday’s opponents USA are 16th in the FIFA rankings, above Wales in 19th, and Harris added: “They’re a great team and I’m looking forward to the game.”
