Strictly light humour Wednesday

-

Strictly is back in the city of lights!

(Blackpool, not Paris).

The contestants started arriving in the “Vegas of the North” on Wednesday, ahead of this weekend’s first Strictly at the legendary Tower Ballroom since 2019.

Blackpool is the mecca of British ballroom dancing – only the best of the best qualify to dance in the national championships there. (Apologies for the not-so humble brag, but I was one of them a fair few moons ago... Jess saying). The contestants certainly seemed to be having fun in the land of Kiss-me-quick hats, donkey rides, and size-obsessed rollercoasters as they posted pics on social media.

Here’s hoping they just said no to the candyfloss and stick of rock though. For: 1. We all know the danger of pier pressure (ahem). 2. Jiving on a sugar comedown could seriously affect the health... of your score.

There was some truly uplifting news on Thursday.

Obviously, I don’t mean in the Budget, Hell hasn’t frozen over.

(Although it might after its next energy bill – imagine the kwh those fiery pits rack up).

Instead the well-timed pick-me-up came courtesy of Amazon.

For while No11 has done little to help warm our houses, Amazon’s done something big to help warm our souls. Because it turns out...

Everybody does need good Neighbours after all. (And not just to borrow candles from when the electricity goes out).

Yes, the streamer’s free Freevee channel is putting right what once went wrong and saving the sunny Aussie soap – four months after its final episode on Channel 5.

A teaser trailer announced the “new season” would start in the UK and US next year – and I can think of only one person who would not be excited: the editor in charge of putting together that streaming service staple, the “Last Season on...” recap.

Why? Because the last “season” was 37 years long.
