WAGS were a thing way back in 1958 when Wales last played in the World Cup. The Welsh FA chartered a plane to fly to Sweden for the tournament, with selectors insisting spaces were kept for their wives.

That meant four of the 22 squad of players were left behind at home.

“And that was that,” says legendary left winger Cliff Jones, now 87 and one of the four surviving members of the team.
