Pensions are ‘not enough to retire on’
FEAR of pension poverty haunts workers when they contemplate retirement, a trade union has warned.
Two in five people think their workplace pension scheme is not enough to live on comfortably, and two-thirds say the state pension is inadequate.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “We mustn’t allow profiteering employers or a negligent state to push our people into pension poverty.
“That means reopening final salary schemes, raising the state pension and continuing to defend the triple lock.”
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced the state pension, which is £185.20 a week, will rise by 10.1%.
