Starmer will axe Lords in his first term
KEIR Starmer would start moves to scrap the House of Lords if he becomes PM, Labour has confirmed.
The party leader wants to replace it with an elected chamber, after rows over Tories handing gongs to a string of cronies.
In his first term in office Mr Starmer would strip politicians of the power to appoint peers.
He reportedly said voters “have lost faith in the ability of politicians to bring about change” .
Former PM Boris Johnson sparked fury by making allies peers.
Labour’s Jonathan Ashworth said yesterday: “When trust in politicians is so low because of the actions of Boris Johnson I think the time is right to democratise the Lords.”
