Fuel pricing gap widens

DIESEL is now nearly 25p per litre more expensive than petrol.

The average price of a litre of diesel is 188.9p with petrol at 164.4p – the largest price gap in records dating back to June 2003.

Steve Gooding, director of the RAC Foundation, said: “The situation for diesel drivers is grim and could deteriorate.”

Bigger fuel bills for HGVS will “inevitably be passed on” to consumers, he said.

Extra fuel duty may also add 12p per litre in March.
