Lowry’s £1.2m Street Scene
THIS painting of humble folk on an ordinary street is expected to fetch up to £1.2million at auction.
English artist LS Lowry painted Street Scene in 1941 when he lived in Pendlebury, Salford.
The picture has been in one family for 50 years. Auctioneers Bonhams estimate the price in London today will be £800,000–£1.2m.
Penny Day, of Bonhams, said: “Factory chimneys, a church spire and a mill complete a series of rich iconography.” The Lowry gallery in Salford Quays, Gtr Manchester, bought the artist’s iconic Going to the Match for £6.6m last month.
