BUST THAT MYTH ABOUT MENINGITIS
‘Meningitis is easy to diagnose’
Quite the contrary, meningitis can be hard to recognise, especially in its early stages. Symptoms include having a severe headache, neck pain and a fever, but all this can easily be mistaken for the flu.
Babies present a different picture from adults and classically have a high-pitched cry, won’t feed and have a bulging fontanelle (the soft spot on the top of the infant’s head).
If you think you or a loved one has meningitis, trust your instincts and seek medical advice immediately.
