Nation faces Winter of Discontent

OTHER strikes set to hammer Britain:

■ NURSES: Royal College of Nursing will announce first strike dates this week after hundreds of thousands of nurses backed their first industrial action in 106 years over pay rise.

■ JUNIOR DOCTORS: British Medical Associatio­n wants a 26% pay rise, 45,000 junior doctors will vote in January on whether to walk out.

■ CIVIL SERVICE: 100,000 workers in 126 government department­s are set to walk out in December.

■ UNIVERSITI­ES: 70,000 staff members due to strike tomorrow, Friday and next Wednesday.

■ ROYAL MAIL: Its dispute with the Communicat­ion Workers Union has lasted months, with 115,000 workers walking out tomorrow and Friday, and

December 9, 11, 14, 15, 23 and 24.

■ FIREFIGHTE­RS: Fire Brigades Union will ballot on action from December 5 to January 23, members have rejected a below-inflation 5% pay rise.

■ SHOPS & FACTORIES: G4S security workers who handle cash deliveries for Asda, Aldi, Barclays, HSBC, Tesco, Wetherspoo­ns and Santander are due to strike on Monday, December 5.
