Conviction call on Nazi secretary, 97

- BY MATTHEW YOUNG

PROSECUTORS want a 97-year-old woman who was the secretary of Stutthof concentration camp’s SS commander convicted as an accessory to murder.

Irmgard Furchner is on trial at the Itzehoe state court in Germany, accused of having “aided and abetted those in charge in the systematic killing of those imprisoned there”.

Prosecutor Maxi Wantzen called for a two-year suspended sentence.

He said she would have been able to see large parts of the camp from her office and see and smell smoke from burning bodies.

Furchner is being tried in a juvenile court because she was under 21 at the time of the alleged crimes.

She has not responded to charges.

The trial continues.
