A TOUPEE worn by TV magician Paul Daniels may sell today for more than £1,000.

While the hairpiece has a pre-sale estimate of £300, Daniels sold another of his wigs for £1,100 in 2011.

Widow and former stage assistant Debbie Mcgee said he started wearing wigs at 30, before he even went bald, so audiences would not notice when he finally did.

Debbie, 64, said: “Magic collectors love anything and everything belonging to famous magicians.

“It seemed sad to just throw it away. Whoever purchases it is guaranteed to have a great talking point at any gathering.” The toupee is part of her late husband’s lifetime collection of magic memorabilia, being sold at Special Auction Services in Newbury, Berks.

The collection is expected to raise more than £200,000.

After performing in Daniels’ 1979 summer show in Great Yarmouth, Debbie became his regular assistant, appearing alongside him on TV from 1979 to 1994 and marrying him in 1988.

Daniels, who once did a show called Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow, died in 2016, aged 77. He had an incurable brain tumour.

His magic collection, including the toupee, was stored at the couple’s home in Henley-on-thames, Oxon.
