Three up & three down for Ireland..

-

GARY HURLEY and John Murphy are in dreamland after gaining their DP World Tour stripes in Spain following six gruelling rounds.

They will join Tom Mckibben as the new Irish faces on Tour.

I was so pleased to see the guys get through and hopefully this will be the start of long and successful careers.

Hurley, especially, should be super proud. He was potentially on golf’s scrapheap 12 months ago and it is great to see him fulfil the promise shown when he first turned pro in 2015.

Murphy is just in his second year so to make the jump so quickly is a great sign. His amateur career gave us hope that he could make the transition.

It’s also great for Munster golf as they have been starved of a European Tour presence.

Fedex Cup pace-setter Seamus Power is the poster boy for these guys and he will inspire them.

Mckibben and Murphy begin their seasons in South Africa tomorrow.

Mckibben had great success there on the Challenge Tour at the start of the year and should have the confidence to get up to speed quickly.

The big stars tend to be resting up at this time of year so it’s a great opportunity for these younger guys to hit the ground running and settle in.

But it was a tough week for Cormac Sharvin, Jonathan Caldwell and Paul Dunne, who that didn’t get through. They’re in a tough space.

Their careers have stalled and some soul searching will be required before they regroup on the Challenge Tour next season.

Maybe time away from the spotlight and a reassessment of the changes and improvements needed to get back to the top table can be made.

Next year is crucial for them to try and get their golfing mojos back.

When you look at Power’s achievement, if you believe in your dreams and put in the right work then you can scale your own golfing Everest.

I wish those guys all the best.
