FROM JACK OTWAY in Doha SWITZERLAND’S Granit Xhaka is raring to go at the World Cup after his outstanding season so far for Arsenal.

The midfielder’s side face Cameroon and, with the Gunners flying in the Premier League, Xhaka (above) has vowed to bring his self-belief to the Swiss camp.

“I think my club has had a great season but I always say the national team is something different,” he said. “Of course I’ve got major self-confidence, and I will try to pass it on to my team-mates.”

Manager Murat Yakin has fired a warning to Cameroon, insisting they will be facing the best players his country has ever produced.

“I think we are the best Switzerland national team that has ever existed,” he said.

“We have fantastic players who play abroad and I am convinced we will perform our best World Cup ever.”

Cameroon have failed to pick up a point from either of their last two World Cup appearances. There have been issues over finances in recent years but head coach, ex-liverpool and West Ham defender Rigobert Song (above), feels his side are now ready to compete at the highest level.

“After all the mistakes we’ve made in the past, we haven’t had any problems or disputes about wages or money, and things have changed,” he said.

“They are different periods in our history. There were problems with the organisation behind the scenes, but I feel that we are now at a very different level.”
