Tesco £14m aid to crack egg famine
TESCO has announced multi-million pound aid for hard-hit egg suppliers.
Soaring feed costs and bird flu have led to shortages, with some supermarkets rationing supplies.
Tesco said it would give almost £14million of support to its suppliers and producers until March, with some aid continuing after that date.
The move came a day after Waitrose, one of the few supermarkets not to impose limits on customers, promised a £2.6million investment in egg supplies.
The National Farmers’ Union wants an urgent probe into the shortages.
