Guaranteed to lift the spirits of thirsty sailors, P&O Cruises is launching the world’s first rum distilled at sea.

Collaborating with Jersey-based rum brand The Tidal Rum, the new tipple will be created on board the cruise company’s newest ship, Arvia, which arrives in December.

As she sails to the Caribbean the new rum, named The Golden Tide, will be distilled in the world’s first rum distillery at sea located in Anderson’s Bar. Guests will be able to witness the distilling process through floor-toceiling windows.

Guests can also take part in rum-tasting and rum-blending classes. pocruises.com

Meanwhile, gin has been an anchor in Holland America Line’s history dating back to its inception, and to celebrate that 150-year tradition the firm is debuting a new exclusive label of the spirit on board.

Named De Lijn in a nod to Holland America Line’s roots, the bottle features a label in Dutch orange with drawings of blue juniper berries in a style that pays homage to the iconic blue and white seen on Holland’s Delftware pottery.

De Lijn is available in bars and lounges fleet-wide and bottles can be purchased in shipboard shops. hollandamerica.com
