GLEN CLOSE TO FINAL WHERE KILCOO COULD AWAIT THEM..

- BY KARL O’KANE

ANTRIM champions Cargin caused an upset in Ulster last time out by defeating Donegal’s Glenties in a penalty shoot out.

In tomorrow’s semi-final they face Derry side Glen, who ousted Tyrone’s Errigal Ciaran in a classic.

Glen had their share of luck with a fortunate own goal and a hit on the Errigal keeper that could have been a free out also leading to a goal.

But they should have had a penalty that wasn’t awarded for a bad foul on Alex Doherty.

This is a real local derby, with less than 10 miles between Maghera (Glen) and Toomebridge (Cargin).

It seems strange that both sides are being dragged to Omagh for this one but Glen should have the legs to win, with Ethan Doherty and Conor Glass (above) leading the charge.

Down’s Kilcoo looked sharp and potent in defeating a disappointing Ballybay last time out, and they’ll be confident today against Enniskillen, who beat Cavan’s Gowna in a penalty shootout.

In hurling, Ballyhale Shamrocks will be expected to take out Naas in the Leinster semi-final at Croke Park, despite the Kildare side’s impressive win over Offaly’s Shinroe.

Kilmacud are favourites in the second semi-final, but St Mullins of Carlow will be confident after taking out Wexford’s Ferns St Aidan’s last time out.

In tomorrow’s Galway hurling final, holders St Thomas are favoured to edge out Loughrea.
