Tories look ‘exhausted’, warns peer

-

A TOP Tory has warned the party is looking “exhausted, tainted and ill-disciplined”.

Labour leader Keir Starmer is more popular than PM Rishi Sunak on 11 out of 12 issues, polling revealed yesterday.

And just 7% of voters believe the Tories are “competent and capable”, research by former party chair Lord Ashcroft found.

Panicked Red Wall Tory MPS are reportedly plotting to form a breakaway party amid fears of an election wipeout.

And nine Tories have announced they will not stand in the next election.

Lord Ashcroft likened the Sunak government to that of John Major in 1997 – “so exhausted, tainted and ill-disciplined that even a strongly recovering economy could not stave off defeat”.

Major’s Tories were trounced in a landslide by Tony Blair’s Labour.
