MY AMAZING ARTWORK

-

A self-educated man of many talents, no doubt the late, great David Bowie would have approved of the vision behind the Letchworth Settlement in the UK’S first Garden City.

Amateur artist Tony Faulkner painted this eerily good portrait of Bowie at his Get Painting art group at the Letchworth Settlement. He says: “We’re here every Wednesday and Thursday mornings, and anybody can come along and try out painting in the wonderful atmosphere of our adult recreation and learning centre.”

The 65-year-old explains: “Letchworth is the brainchild of Ebenezer Howard, a town planner who envisaged town living in a rural setting to combat the abject poverty of the early 1900s.

“We have hundreds of groups where you can do everything from writing, painting, furniture-making, languages, or learning about history and philosophy in tutored groups.

“Howard created something really special, and here in Letchworth, we are living his dream.”
