APOLOGIES MUM, I GOT POLEAXED

-

SAUDI ARABIA coach Herve Renard has apologised to his mother after being brought back down to earth by Poland.

Before the match the Frenchman (above) said it was going to be very special for her because her parents were Polish, adding: “But she will wear her Saudi national shirt, don’t worry.”

Renard’s mother was in the crowd to see Saudi Arabia cause one of the biggest World Cup upsets by beating Argentina 2-1.

But there was no repeat on Saturday with Robert Lewandowski scoring and setting up a goal in Poland’s 2-0 win.

“She won’t be happy with me,” Renard said. “I’m sure she’s really sad. But I will tell her, you always repeat to me, ‘Never give up, always work hard and the chance will come back’.”
