PROTESTS ALL PITCH PERFECT

-

NOT exactly riveting, is it? While I have watched almost non-stop the televised coverage of the World Cup I can’t say I have found it riveting.

The only two bits I found entertaining on the pitch were the Germans losing to Japan and the Argentines getting a lesson in commitment from the Saudis.

What was much more interesting was the off the ball stuff – the Iranian team refusing to sing their national anthem in protest at the killings of civilians back home.

It was also good to see the Germans covering their mouths in a symbolic gesture indicating FIFA’S censoring of protests by players, and over zealous Qatari officials interrupting live broadcasts on at least two occasions.

That really did show how committed they were to democracy.

Qatar spent £330billion on infrastructure.

Amongst that massive spend was the building of seven new stadiums.

The thought occurs that at least four/five will never ever be used once the

World Cup departs.

Now that really is waste on an epic scale
