Donor-sperm babies treble

-

THE number of children born using donor sperm has trebled in 15 years.

The surge, from under 900 in 2006 to 2,800 in 2019, was driven by lesbian couples and single women in their 30s and 40s.

A Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority report also found half of the sperm in UK clinics is from foreign donors.

There have been 70,000 donor births since 1991 and sperm, egg or full embryo donations now make up one in 170 births.
