Caller ‘spoof’ banks probe

BANKS have been forced to act after a probe found customers may have been vulnerable to “spoofing”.

The tactic of forging a number to match a real firm is used by fraudsters.

Companies can update an Ofcom list which helps telecoms firms block suspect calls.

But consumer group Which? spoofed numbers of banks including Lloyds and HSBC. Lloyds wants telecoms firms to fix “technical gaps”. Others added numbers to Ofcom’s list.
