BBC1 viewers were gobsmacked last night when 22 players turned up at a Scottish castle to take part in the murder mystery reality show, little thinking that two of them would be sent straight home.

But Amos, a doctor from North London and Kieran, a solutions consultant from Hertfordshire, discovered the hard way that host Claudia Winkleman has a mean streak. Having asked them to line-up in order of who they thought was least likely to win the competition, the two men put themselves at the very end.

Claudia told them: “Every decision you make has a consequence. So, you two, you think you’re going to lose. I’m going to take you at your word. So, I’m afraid it’s goodbye.” Kieran could only splutter that he felt “utter devastation” while Amos said: “That was difficult.” Later three “traitors” were secretly chosen with a shoulder-tap from Claudia. Can they go undetected to win up to £120,000?
