GEORGIA TOFFOLO: IN SEARCH OF PERFECT SKIN

ITV2, 9pm

-

Georgia “Toff” Toffolo was so desperate to get rid of her acne, which drew venomous comments online, that she turned to a controversial prescription “wonder drug”.

Roaccutane has been linked to depression, sudden psychotic episodes, and even suicide.

“People called me pizza face, big craters... I remember looking in the mirror and thinking that everything they said was true,” says the TV personality.

In this film, Toff gets under the skin of the multi-billion pound acne industry, revealing the risks that people are taking in their quest for skin perfection. With her acne recently flaring up, she is deciding whether to embark on another course of the drug – but wants to learn more about its rare, dangerous side effects.

There’s a devastating moment when she speaks to the mother of teenager Annabel Wright, who believes her daughter’s suicide was linked to the acne drug.

A statement from Roche, the company that makes Roaccutane, said: “We take the safety of all our medicines very seriously. Like most medications, Roaccutane can have side effects. That is why we recommend it is prescribed very carefully, with particular consideration regarding any previous history of depression.”

And Toff also examines the murky world of cosmetic claims, with shocking results.
