RONALD DE BOER has accused Rangers of failing to stand by sacked boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst – just six months after talk of building him a statue.

The Ibrox legend (above) came out swinging on behalf of his old team-mate 24 hours after van Bronckhorst was replaced in the hotseat by Michael Beale.

And he has accused the club of doing the dirty on the Dutchman after being panicked into pulling the trigger.

De Boer said: “Last year people from Scotland called me, ‘Does he deserve a statue because he’s put Rangers back in Europe?’

“Everybody was thrilled that he was their manager and now, six months later, he’s out. Again, that’s back to the opportunistic football world. It goes so quickly they don’t have the patience.

“But he knows also that’s part of being a manager of a big club like Rangers.

“It’s sad because he had a lot of injuries and I wish they could stand with him a little bit longer.”
