Dot’s death rocks Walford
Sonia takes devastating call as soap legend June written out
ALBERT Square will be in mourning this evening when it is revealed Dot Cotton has passed away.
Sonia Fowler receives a devastating phone call revealing the news, and is given the task of planning her funeral.
June Brown, who played Dot, died in April, aged 95, but her character had still to be written out of the BBC soap.
In July, Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) recreated Dot’s first scene from 1985, rushing into the cafe and asking for water to take a paracetamol, in a tribute. Actors including Jacqueline Jossa and Tom Watt returned to Walford to film her funeral, playing Dot’s step-granddaughter Lauren Branning and George “Lofty” Holloway.
Also returning are Colin Russell (Lord Michael Cashman), Barry Clarke (Gary
Hailes) and Disa O’brien (Jan Graveson).
Executive producer Chris Clenshaw has said Dot gets a “fitting send-off ”.
