Double-amputee dog gets a new leash of life

- BY JON HARRIS

A Double-amputee dog is back to walkies as usual after having his worn-out prosthetic legs replaced.

Former street pup Cola had his front legs hacked off with a sword in 2016 as “punishment” for chewing shoes in Bangkok, Thailand. A vet saved Cola’s life and he was helped by the Soi Dog Foundation, who got him fitted with lightweight carbon fibre prostheses.

But these wore down from scampering around beaches and chasing rabbits near his new home on the Thai island of Phuket.

So his owner got him measured for new limbs at the Pace Rehabilitation clinic in Bredbury, Gtr Manchester. Cola’s lightweight limbs will be replaced by sturdier, longer-lasting ones. Toby Carlsson, of Pace, said: “Cola was a delight... the first canine we have treated.”

The SDF’S John Dalley said: “I’m grateful. New custom-made prosthetics will make a huge difference to his life.”
