COLIN with GOODWIN
The Government has carried out a consultation suggesting that drivers with a category B car licence should be allowed to have a C1 licence to drive a 7.5-ton lorry. This has got IAM Roadsmart road safety worried, and it’s an interesting debate, not least because when many of us learned to drive we could drive 7.5 tonners, which is exactly what I did when I was 17 driving a fork lift. The move is being considered to ease the shortage of UK LGV and HGV drivers.
