AS GOOD AS GOLD?

- BY MELISSA JONES

ROBERT and Sam Waleycohen will return to the scene of their finest hour with Randox Grand National hero Noble Yeats.

Father and son, overjoyed by the chaser’s exploits in the April highlight, both plan to be at Aintree on Saturday.

Noble Yeats runs over regulation fences in the Boylesports Many Clouds Chase under Sean Bowen.

Twelve months ago it was won by the Dan Skelton-trained Protektorat, who then came third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

And the Waley-cohens, successful with Long Run in the 2011 Festival feature, hope to find out if Noble Yeats will emerge as a contender.

Asked if it would be on the agenda, following a bold show from the 50-1 National winner at the weekend, Robert Waleycohen

said: “Definitely. We want to go and win it on Saturday, but we will find out if he is Gold Cup class or has a high enough handicap rating. This is a good benchmark to see where we are.”

Noble Yeats gave Sam Waley-cohen a fairytale triumph on his last ever ride in the National.

“It was extraordinary,” added Waley-cohen senior.

“All the family are going to Aintree on Saturday.”
