RACHAEL’S MARE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL in today’s opener

Blackmore should make class Tel

TELMESOMETHINGGIRL might deliver on her chasing debut in the Richard Brennan Fencing Beginners Chase, a fascinating opener to today’s sevenrace card in Thurles.

The seven-year-old mare represents the Honeysuckle team of Kenny Alexander, Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. And, although it’s a little disconcerting that she failed to complete on her last two hurdle outings last season,

Telmesomethinggirl (left) looks an exciting chasing recruit.

Winner of the Grade 2 Mares Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021, de Bromhead’s charge was poised to run a big race in the Grade 1 mares event at the Festival last March when brought down at the second last, in a race won by Maries Rock.

And she hit the deck again in Punchestown’s Grade 1 mares event in April, crashing four out in another race won by Maries Rock.

Third to Royal Kahala in a Grade 3 hurdle at Leopardstown last Christmas, Telmesomethinggirl won her only point-to-point, for Colin Bowe, is sure to be well-schooled and, with the 7lb mare’s allowance, she might prove too good for the Willie Mullins’ runner Glengouly, successful twice over flights last term, and Noel Meade’s Highland Charge – successful in a Grade 3 novice at Naas when last seen in March.

Today’s feature is the Equuip From Foal to RACE TY Chase, a listed event in which the Willie Mullins-runs Cilaos Emery, a five-time winner over fences and successful in this event 12 months ago.

The Closutton gelding hasn’t run since chasing home stable-companion Easy Game in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse at Easter.

But I’ll side with Joseph O’brien’s tough, consistent and versatile gelding Darasso, who performed with great credit in top handicaps this summer, failing narrowly to Hewick in the Galway Plate before filling third spot behind Busselton in the Kerry National.

Last time, Darasso probably lacked his usual fluency when finishing a close third to Blue Lord in the Clonmel Oil (Grade 2) at Clonmel.

Officially rated 2lb superior to Cilaos Emery and receiving 3lb, Mark Walsh’s mount might have the edge.
