HER latest theatre show hasn’t gone to plan, but it’s no wonder Sheridan Smith is still smiling after earning £1.1million from TV last year.

The 42-year-old runs a company to take in cash from her telly work called Barking Mad Productions Ltd.

And her most recent annual accounts sent to Companies House this week show that she’s paid around £222,445 in corporation tax for 2023.

The tax burden is based on her earnings being £1.1m over that period – or the equivalent to £21,000 a week. Her books also showed she had £239,538 in cash at the time of filing her accounts.

Mum-of-one Sheridan has starred in TV dramas including Cilla, Mrs Biggs and The C Word and her earnings may include money for repeat showings of these as well as other dramas she has starred in more recently.

In 2023 she was in Paramount+ series The Castaways based on a book of the same name. And she also appeared in comedy drama Gangsta Granny Strikes Again! at the end of 2022.

Sheridan is currently starring in West End musical Opening Night about an actor with mental health problems. But

scathing reviews and ailing ticket sales have led to the production ending two months early on May 18.

Some critics thought the script was to blame and said even Sheridan’s skills could not save the production.

The star said playing an actress in the grip of a mental breakdown was “a gift” of a part that allowed her to bring her own experiences to it.

Sheridan – who is raising her son Billy following her split with former insurance broker Jamie Horn in 2021 – has spoken publicly about her own breakdown and struggles with alcohol and anxiety.

She said some would “have mixed feelings” about seeing her in such an avant garde show as Opening Night but added she wanted it to be accessible for fans of her mainstream hits.

Earlier this month she was nominated for Best Actress at the Olivier Awards for Shirley Valentine.

Brushing off the disappointment of the failed musical, she posted photos on social media from the evening and said she was “proud of us all” for the theatre production’s nominations.
