X FACTOR judge Simon Cowell has offered Sir Tom Jones a lifeline after he was axed from BBC’s The Voice.

The music boss, 55, is set to invite Tom to be a mentor on the ITV hit show at the judges’ houses stage.

He said: “Tom’s come out of it well. We can all get a bit paranoid at times but he was dignified. He can come on one of the home shows this year.” The move comes after 75-year-old Tom lashed out over his sacking. He said: “I was told with no consultation or conversation that I would not be returning to the show. As part of the team, I’d put the time in my schedule to be involved in series five, as I’ve done for the last four years.”

Cowell said Tom’s replacement, Paloma Faith, 34, had called him two weeks ago to ask his advice about being on the show. He told her: “Do it!”

Cowell also thinks Zayn Malik needs to get a “sense of perspective” after splitting with One Direction. And said the band would regret hitting out on Twitter.

He added: “I don’t like this Twitter stuff. You are always going to regret what you send out.”

X Factor is back on ITV tonight at 8pm.
