Cage these drone menaces

-

PEOPLE who fly drones too close to aircraft should be jailed, aviation experts say.

The call came after it was revealed a helicopter and passenger plane had near misses with pilotless devices.

One forced a Royal Navy Lynx helicopter to swerve and another came within 50 metres of a passenger plane.

Both incidents happened in the same week and are just the latest in a growing number reported by pilots. In a report released yesterday the UK Airprox Board said: “The next incident might not be a near miss but a collision”.

The report added that those caught should be treated in the same way as people shining laser pens at pilots.

Last year two men from Walsall, West Mids, were jailed for three and four months for targeting a police helicopter.
