Oldest eagle in UK is killed
THE oldest known golden eagle in Britain has died after apparently clashing with a younger rival muscling in on its territory.
The bird ringed at a few weeks old in June 1997 was discovered close to its nest.
A RSPB spokesman said: “We think a younger bird came along and there was a tussle as the older one didn’t want to give up its territory.
“These clashes often end in one of the birds dying.”
The dead eagle was found at the RSPB reserve at Forsinard Flows, Sutherland.
