Roy’s Baron wilderness

-

Roy Hattersley has resigned from the House of Lords because he says it’s “unequal”.

It’s got nothing to do with the fact he’s 82, spends his time writing in Derbyshire, with a new wife, so can’t be bothered traipsing to London to pick up his £300-a-day allowance for nodding off in a comfy leather seat after a long, claret-soaked subsidised lunch with his fellow cronies, reminiscing about the past 18 years he’s spent in the most antiquated, corruptly-appointed political chamber in the world.

A chamber he entered as a reward for being a Labour “moderniser.” Go figure that one. Roy isn’t severing all his ties though. No, he’s keeping his title of Baron. How “equal” is that? Looking at the latest shower of expense-fiddlers Cameron is sending to the Lords, maybe we should let them all be called Baron. And their chamber The House of Robber Barons.
