Janner ‘let off court appearance’
LORD Janner will not be forced to attend court over child sex abuse charges next week.
The 87-year-old dementia sufferer faces 15 counts of indecent assault and seven of a separate sexual offence against nine alleged victims over three decades. He was to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday.
But court sources said judge, Mr Justice Sweeney, would not demand he be at the hearing.
Last month, the Labour peer and ex MP was ordered to attend magistrates court for 59 seconds after a legal wrangle over the issue.
His lawyers said he was too ill to appear. But senior judges ruled he had to because of the “strong public interest”.
Janner, of Muswell Hill, North London, is on bail.
