Hot on the heels of its very tasty 208 GTi is a souped up version of Peugot’s 308 hatchback. The 308 GTi is the first hot hatch in the Focus class from the French company since the brilliant 306 GTi-16 from the 1990s.

The new car is available as a standard 308 GTi with 250bhp from its 1.6-litre turbo engine for £26,555 – and in hotter form as the GTi 270 with 270bhp, priced at £28,155. Both pretty good value compared to rivals.

The more powerful car is not only quicker but comes with its own 19in wheels, bigger brakes and sports seats. It’s also available with Peugeot’s corking red/black Coupe Franche paint as used on the 30th anniversary 208 GTi.
