News that cyber crooks have drained £20million from UK bank accounts will undoubtedly cause concern.

The National Crime Agency reckon thousands of computers, mainly Windows users, could be infected.

John Cannon, Fraud & ID Director at Noddle, says: “Unfortunately, what this cyber attack shows is that hackers are developing more ingenious ways of getting hold of consumers’ details and using them to their advantage.

Our research found that across the UK, 20 million people have been defrauded at least once – that is far too many.”

While banks work constantly to fight cyber attacks, this case shows thieves keep coming up with more complex scams.

It highlights the need to be careful what you click on and be wary of links in unexpected emails.

For families, this means keeping an eye on kids when using parents’ phones and tablets as they could inadvertently open malware or viruses on to devices.

Make sure you have anti-virus software and use strong passwords to protect your online accounts with a mixture of lower and capital letters, numbers and symbols.

Keeping a regular eye on your credit report will also let you spot any signs of fraudulent activity early.
