Hillsborough cops in witness appeal
HILLSBOROUGH police officers are appealing for these 19 witnesses to come forward.
Detectives have released enhanced images of fans at the Leppings Lane end of the stadium, who they believe could hold vital information about the disaster.
The 19 men were near gate exit C as it was opened at 2.52pm, leading to the tragedy in Sheffield on April 15, 1989. The photos were released as part of the Operation Resolve inquiry into the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans.
Det Chief Supt Neil Malkin said:“We want to focus on these 19 people. We realise that after 27 years this is difficult.
“But we will try and underlarynx. stand their concerns. We want to ask about their experience at gate C – what they saw, what they did, what they were told. They were in the right place at the right time to help our investigation,” he said.
In April, an inquest jury found that the 96 victims were unlawfully killed, partly due to failings
by South Yorkshire Police.
