Bey’s MTV gongs protest at black deaths by cops

-

BEYONCE looks all sweetness and light in this outfit, but once on stage at the MTV video music awards she launched a scathing protest against police killings of black men in the US.

The 34-year-old singer appeared on the red carpet with the mothers of four victims and during her performance backing dancers dressed as angels were “shot” and fell.

Many in the crowd at New York’s Madison Square Gardens cheered the protest. But there was a mixed reception on social media.

Tina Harris tweeted: “Beautiful move on Bey’s part.” Others accused Beyonce, who scooped seven gongs at the awards, of “politicising” the event. Janice Brown wrote: “So sick of this woman and her protests.”

The late David Bowie was among winning Brits, taking Best Art Direction for his album Blackstar. DJ Calvin Harris got two honours.

Celebs included Rita Ora, Kim Kardashian and Alicia Keys, who went make-up free hoping to empower others. Britney Spears performed there for the first time in 10 years.
