Johnson bidding to quash conviction

IT may look like a bear-knuckle fight, but these two are just messing around during a paws in salmon fishing.

Giuseppe D’Amico, 57, thought they were having a scrap when he snapped the animals at Lake Kurile, Kamchatka, in eastern Russia. But he said: “After a while I realised they were just playing.

“It was fantastic to see two big bears seeming to have such a big struggle.”

DISGRACED footballer Adam Johnson is launching a second bid to appeal against his conviction and six-year sentence for child sex offences.

The case could be heard within weeks. In July a judge rejected the former England winger’s first application to appeal.

Dad Johnson, 29, who earned £60,000 a week playing for Sunderland, was convicted in March of sexual activity with a girl, who was 15 at the time.

He pleaded guilty to grooming and a less serious charge of sexual activity with the victim. The Court of Appeal said yesterday: “The papers are going to a summary writer on the case before a date can be given for the hearing to take place.”

On Tuesday, Steven Knox was jailed for 16 weeks for harassing Johnson’s victim in social media posts. Knox, 30, of Sunderland, is the ex-boyfriend of Johnson’s sister Faye.

It has emerged Faye, 24, could face questions over a photo on her Twitter account. The image shows journalists covering Knox’s case and was seemingly taken from the court building – it is against the law to snap photos within a court’s precincts. When asked about the photo, Faye’s dad David said: “I don’t think it’s an offence – I think it is offensive for you to take pictures at court as we are walking in.”
