BASH A HOOT FOR OWLS

Chery: Boss Ian will do everything to succeed

- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

IF Ian Holloway fails to achieve his target of leading Queens Park Rangers into the play-offs this season, it will not be for the want of trying.

Tjaronn Chery has provided an insight into Holloway’s unique, relentless style of management which the Hoops hope will eventually result in an upturn in form.

The winger, 28, said: “We went to Ipswich and lost 3-0. When the manager came on the coach, straight away he took out the laptop and said, ‘This is what we have to do better’.

“Everybody was a bit sad on the coach but he gave us the feeling of ‘it doesn’t matter, we go again’, because we did so many good things as well.

“Normally that analysis would be on the Monday, or when we are back together, but he was straight away ‘football, football, football’. He is not stopping.

“He is a little bit crazy compared to some of the other managers I have had – but in a good way. He loves QPR and he tells the players how much it means to be back at the club.

“It is really good motivation for us. He is really emotional and passionate, and he brings that over to the players.

“And the players like that – we feel a little bit more like a team than maybe before, because he speaks a lot and lets the players know why he is doing something.”

The top six might seem like a long way off right now after four successive defeats, which have left Rangers 18th and 12 points off the play-off places, ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Aston Villa.

But Dutchman Chery said: “We have to do better because we are not looking good in the league at this moment.

“We have to win one game then everybody will feel good and we will be looking to go higher.

“If you play for QPR and don’t think about the play-offs it is not good. We have to believe in ourselves and what the manager wants for us. Win a couple of games and we will look for that.”

Sports is showing 10 games in 10 days from the EFL, including QPR v Aston Villa tomorrow SAM HUTCHINSON says a team-bonding break to Amsterdam could help Sheffield Wednesday win promotion.

The players jetted off for an early annual Christmas bash at the end of last month because of their busy December run.

The party took place after their victory over Wolves and Carlos Carvalhal’s side have since picked up another two wins to lift them just outside the top six.

“It brought everyone together massively,” said Hutchinson (left). “It is very important as we had that same team spirit last season – but we are a much better team now.”

The midfielder scored in the midweek win over Barnsley and faces Rotherham in another derby today. He added. “The game is right up my street. I love big derbies.”

The Shrews are missing Ivan Toney (ban), AJ Leitch-Smith (knee) and Adam El-Abd (ban). Rovers’ Alfie Kilgour is out while loanee Connor Roberts returns to Swansea.
