Mel invents a language of her own at 18
A TEENAGER has invented her own language with 1,500 different words and an original script - at the age of 18.
But Melissa May has no one to talk to, as she is the only person who speaks it.
Melissa, who is fluent in German, French and Spanish and reads Portuguese, Norwegian, Italian, Swedish and Danish, created the “Sk nav nns” language as a “work of art”.
The student, of Corsham, Wilts, said: “I don’t want to dominate the world and make everyone speak my language. I’m doing it for the love of it.” Her favourite words in the new language are “elen” – a deep affection for all of humanity and “skeratju i” – bickering siblings.
Melissa, who has applied to study Anglo-Saxon at Cambridge, added: “It’s not finished and it probably never will be. I’m quite busy.” SINGER Ed Sheeran proudly shows off his red nose with smiling Liberian street children ahead of this year’s Comic Relief.
The chart-topper, 25, met many youngsters orphaned by Ebola during his visit to the capital Monrovia. He said: “I’ll never forget the kids I met, when we sang together they were in such high spirits despite everything they’d been through. I‘m really proud to support Comic Relief and see what they are doing to help these children have a better future.”
This year’s Red Nose Day, which aims to transform lives in the UK and Africa, is on March 24. Regulars Lenny Henry and David Walliams will be taking part.
