WE’RE OUT FOR RAFA, NO FEAR..

- BY ANN GRIPPER

BRIGHTON are raring to go in their table-topping clash with Newcastle tomorrow night – just don’t call them underdogs.

Well-taken goals from Sam Baldock (below), Jamie Murphy (above) and Anthony Knockaert in a vibrant display against promotion rivals Reading sent Albion top by a point.

And the outstanding Murphy said: “I don’t think there’s any reason to fear Newcastle.”

The pressure is on Rafa Benitez to ensure Toon bounce straight back to the Premier League, while play-off regulars Brighton are focused on their first return to the top flight since 1983.

The Seagulls lost 2-0 at St James’ Park in August but believe they are now ready to go toe to toe with Newcastle – both on and off the pitch.

Murphy said: “It’s up to us to be on our game and be better than them. I don’t know what the odds are, I don’t know if we’re underdogs or not.

“We want to try to win every game, but home games especially in front of the crowd.

“It’s going to be a difficult game, don’t get me wrong.

“Newcastle are a big side. We could see that when we went to their place – they’ve got a great stadium and great fans.

“But us too. We’re obviously building down here. The stadium’s fantastic, our fans are great.”

Automatic promotion looks beyond Reading – but boss Jaap Stam would rate the play-offs a fine achievement in his first term.

He said: “It’s not that we come in and I’m a magic sorcerer and straight away we’re going to go up to the Premier League with basically the same squad.”
