FIL MAKES MEAL OF IT

SHREWSBURY 0 BOLTON 2 LEAGUE ONE

BOLTON defender Mark Beevers reckons Filipe Morais’s “buffet balls” are feeding the Trotters’ promotion ambitions.

Beevers says freetransfer Morais is in such good form, second-placed Wanderers are helping themselves to goals.

Centre-back Beevers and striker Adam Le Fondre feasted on deliveries from Morais to take Phil Parkinson’s side six points clear of Fleetwood in third.

And two more assists for Morais took his tally to 11 – the highest in England’s top four divisions in 2017.

“It’s incredible what he’s done since he’s come in,” said Beevers, who headed his fifth goal in six games from a Morais long throw.

“The big lads just need some ‘buffet balls’ and he’s been putting them in there. I know what Fil is capable of but I don’t think even he expected it to be this good.

“He knows he can deliver a good ball and it’s up to the rest of the lads to put it in the back of the net.”

LIAM SERCOMBE admits the play-offs could be gone for Oxford after they missed out on victory.

Midfielder Sercombe took the blame for one chance missed but the visitors also saw keeper Simon Eastwood save Matt Taylor’s penalty.

Sercombe said: “It’s a tough ask for the play-offs now. We had enough chances to win the game and I should have scored as well.”

DENIZ MEHMET says Port Vale can beat the drop

The keeper said: “Any point we pick up is a point gained. We have a game in hand as well and just need to get a run going.

“It was important to get a clean sheet and shows how well we defended.

“It’s a massive thing to get a week’s break now. This will give us time to recover. We’ve got Wimbledon next who are another strong side so we have to build on this result.”
