FLETCH TO BE NEXT GOLDEN OLDIE AT BAGGIES

- BY STEVE MADELEY

WEST BROM have offered to deal in captain Darren Fletcher for another two years.

The Baggies want to make the Scotland skipper their latest golden oldie after offering him a contract to stay at the Hawthorns until he is 35.

Fletcher (right) will make his 83rd consecutive Premier League start against his former club at Old Trafford.

And Albion boss Tony Pulis (inset) has offered the 33-year-old a new contract to avoid him leaving in the summer.

Fletcher has played enough games to trigger a one-year option for next season but has delayed signing while his agent negotiates fresh terms.

Veteran defender Gareth McAuley this week penned a new one-year deal to keep him at West Brom past his 38th birthday.

Pulis said: “Darren is a senior player and the course of getting stuff sorted out will be between Darren and the financial people at this club.

“Everyone wants Darren to stay and he knows that.”

Fletcher has not missed a Premier League game since joining the Baggies in 2015. That is despite needing surgery for the bowel condition ulcerative colitis during his time at United. “Once he got himself to a level where he knew his fitness levels would come back it was always just a case of him getting a vehicle to drive,” said Pulis. “That has been us and we’re delighted we’ve given him that opportunity because he has certainly repaid it hand over fist.”
