Punters Definitly into Red
DEFINITLY RED and More Of That were the horses for money ahead of Saturday’s Randox Health Grand National yesterday.
Last year’s second home The Last Samuri was elevated to the top of the handicap by Carlingford Lough’s defection, but he was friendless in the market for the Aintree marathon as Definitly Red and More Of That were cut to 9-1 and 11-1 respectively by Betway.
“We went 10-1 on Definitly Red after the declarations, but have now cut him to 9-1,” said Betway’s Alan Alger.
“Cause Of Causes, More Of That and Vieux Lion Rouge are at 11-1 with More Of That emerging as the most significant mover, in from 16-1.”
70 horses are left in the great race for which the weights have been raised by 1lb.
40 can run and the David Pipe pair of La Vaticane and Doctor Harper jointly hold that position in the weights.
The final runners are known on Thursday and La Vaticane would be picked to run should everything stand their ground, as her current official mark puts her 1lb clear of Doctor Harper.
Carlingford Lough will wait for the Boylesports Irish National or the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup.
Frank Berry, racing manager to Carlingford Loch’s owner JP McManus, said: “At the minute we could have four runners.
”Pendra will be ridden by Aidan Coleman while Jamie Codd will ride one that Barry Geraghty discards. Regal Encore will run as well.”
With Geraghty seemingly favouring More Of That, it’s likely Codd will ride Cause Of Causes who he has ridden to success in the last three Cheltenham Festivals.
